GLE2O: Grade 10 Learning Strategies
ISU-Learning Logs (15%)
Purpose:
Throughout this project, students will:
-
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the learning skills that are most effective for them
-
Use planning, processing, and critical/creative thinking in creating a “toolbox” which displays their use of most effective learning strategies
-
Make connections between strategy use and depth of learning,
Task:
-
Throughout the year you will be reflecting on the learning experiences that you will be engaged in within each of your core classes. These reflections will be in various forms: question-response, visual images, mind maps, checklists, etc.
-
You are expected to gather these reflections and, at the end of the year, create a timeline of your progress with learning which will include (1) the strategies that you have tried, (2) the frustrations and challenges your experienced, (3) the solutions to those frustrations and challenges, (4) the techniques that have help to maintain motivation throughout the year, (5) and an “action plan” for how you will approach your grade 11 year.
Process:
The following is the processes used to complete this project:
-
Each student will be given a Learning Logs notebook.
-
This notebook will be used throughout the year to gather your reflections
-
In April you will be able to choose any “presentation” platform to synthesize your reflections and create the Learning Journey Timeline (video, prezi, timetoast, thinglink, edpuzzle….)
-
You will be conferencing with your teacher periodically to help to guide the reflection and to periodically work toward synthesizing your reflections (identifying themes from your notes). Essentially, your Learning Log notebook will be the place to record your “field observations” as this is essentially an investigation to answer the following question: How can I become a more effective learner?
