Material Organization

Guiding Questions:

What does it mean to be organized? Why is it important? how can we be organized at school?

What do organized binders/digital files look like and require? How is this connected to success?

Categorization Game

In pairs, you will compete to detemine who can organize the following list of words into the greatest number of categories. A category is defined as a group of three words or more that have a common theme. For example the words sky, field, and road can be group under the term "things found outdoors". In your pair you will be given a piece of chart paper and 5 minutes to organize the words. ARE YOU READY?

Let's think back to the game we played at the beginning of the class.

1. How did you organize the words?

2. How can we apply this thinking strategy to our organization of our binders and our computer?

3. What elements need to be in our binders and computer files to be "officially organized"

Using the elements of material organization we identified in the previous activity, spend some time creating effective binders and computer files (hard drive, one note, and google docs). You will then present your organizational method to a partner an explain its logic.

Based on what we have done throughout the class, you will be placed in a group and be tasked with creating a rubric by which you will be evaluated on your material organization throughout the year.
