Who Are You as a Learner? Class Discussion
What does this question really mean? Can we ever know who we are? Why is this important? Why should you dedicate some time to finding out who you are as a learner? How do you begin this process anyway? When you do discover who you are, what do you do with that information?
On the person outline provided, visually represent who you feel that you are. The following is an example:

Understanding the Connection between Personality and Learning?

What is Learning?
Our personality plays a large role in how we learn. But before we discuss this relationship we really need to determine what learning is.
LEARNING IS:
about change in behaviour or capacity which is more or less permanent and is the product of the interaction with the "learners" environment within the learner's lifespan.

For homework, it is your task to interview one friend and one family member. Your focus in this interview is to determine how other people "see" you. Some potential questions are: What do you feel are my greatest strengths? What do you feel are my weaknesses? If you had to use three adjectives to describe me what would you say? If you compared me to any animal what would it be and why? Please be ready to share the efforts of your investigation with the class.
Personality Inventories
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a great personality test which is based on the theory that much seemingly random variation in the behavior is actually quite orderly and consistent, being due to basic differences in the ways individuals prefer to use their perception (how people become aware of things, people, happenings, or ideas) and judgment (how people come to conclusions about what is precieved).

What is Your Personality Type?
It's Your Turn to Dig Into Your Personality Type. Take the MBTI
Once you have completed the MBTI, Please:
1. Post your MBTI type in your OneNote
2. Indicate a few of the key words that describe you as a person.
Reflect on Your MBTI Personality Type: Please complete the following in your journals:
-
Explain how each of the four dimensions fits your experiences of yourself throughout your life time so far (use specific examples)
-
Connect each of your dimensions to you as a learner; how does being this type of personality help/hinder you as a learner?
What is Your Learning Style?
Now that we know how we interact in the world and how this relates to our opportunities to learn, it is important that we examine our individual learning style.
A LEARNING STYLE IS...
a way to take in and process information
a preference that gets stronger the more it is used
the way the mind operates
