Gr. 9 Learning Strategies
GLS1O: Grade 9 Learning Strategies
Independent Study Project—Learning Logs 10%
Purpose:
Throughout this project, students will:
-
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the learning skills that are most effective for them
-
Use planning, processing, and critical/creative thinking in creating options for their Design Thinking Action Plan
-
Make connections between strategy use and depth of learning
Task:
-
Throughout the year you will be reflecting on the learning experiences that you will be engaged in within each of your core classes. These reflections will be in various forms: question-response, visual images, mind maps, checklists, etc.
-
You are expected to gather these reflections and, at the end of the year and synthesize them in any form. This synthesis will focus on four major questions:
Who were you as a learner and a person at the beginning of the course?
What experiences, throughout this year, have impacted you as a learner and as a person (how?)
Who are you as a learner and as a person now (at the end of the year)?
How has your action plan assisted you throughout this journey?
Process:
The following is the processes used to complete this project:
-
Each student will be given a Learning Logs notebook.
-
This notebook will be used throughout the year to gather your reflections
-
In April you will be able to choose any platform to synthesize your reflections and create the Final Reflection which addresses the above four questions (video, prezi, timetoast, thinglink, edpuzzle….)
-
You will be conferencing with your teacher periodically to help to guide the reflection and to periodically work toward synthesizing your reflections (identifying themes from your notes).
